This is my favorite board game. The physical game and the app are both very well-thought out, just like the game itself. Tons of fun! If you like strategy, this game has something for every type of play style. I also appreciate how the app guides you through the rules as needed, has tons of built-in variations and challenges, and lets you save a game for later. You can even play online! I love this.

Root is my favourite board game, and learning each faction has to be the best part. But the digital version has issues. There’s no penalty for leaving online matches, and no competitive mode for players who want more than casual play. Also, you can get all DLCs for free by cancelling the Google Play purchase through play store, and you still keep it, which clearly needs fixing. I think a proper way to deal with the first issue is to do what Age of Empires II did with their elo system.

To preface this I've never played the physical game, that said I can tell they stayed true to the aesthetics and themes, but I'd gotten it in part to learn as I'd been warned ROOT can be quite obtuse; so, I'd hoped the digitized version would help with that some. While it has gotten me familiar with it the tutorials being so strict makes it difficult to understand the cards available, its interface is also a bit stiff, otherwise it seems to be a faithful recreation.
