A hole has been chalked into grey asphalt, and the time climbs out of it. Like the famous 3D sidewalk-chalk illusions, the hours stand deep inside the hole as chalk-drawn solid digits, and the minutes rise out of it toward you - big, leaning, their lower parts standing on the pavement over the edge of the hole, their shadows hatched in charcoal. Two real sticks of chalk lie beside the drawing.
Drawn in chalk
Every digit is a solid drawn by hand in chalk: a pastel front with visible strokes, darker sides, lighter tops, a wobbly outline and the grain of the asphalt showing through.
Digits that rise out of the hole
Every new minute, the digit that changes rises out of the depth of the hole to its place, with a puff of chalk dust at the edge. On the hour the hour digits arrive too.
Tap for a dust cloud
Tap the watch face and a cloud of chalk dust puffs up out of the hole and drifts away behind the digits. It puffs by itself every hour too.
Three chalks
- Pastel: every digit its own colour - pink, blue, yellow, mint.
- White chalk.
- Neon: pink, lime, orange and cyan.
Readings in hopscotch squares
The date is chalked at the top; steps, unread notifications and battery sit in three chalked hopscotch squares. Put another app's complication there and it shows that app's icon; set a slot to Empty and its square goes away.
Easy on the battery
Nothing moves between minutes; the arrivals play for about a second, the dust cloud only on a tap and on the hour. Always-on shows only dim chalk outlines of the digits on black.
