Tomoshibi is the small light of a lamp in the dark. On this dial, tall bamboo in the style of gold maki-e lacquer leans in from the left, and stepping stones climb through the mist past four paper lanterns. The right half is bare black lacquer with polished gold batons, doubled at twelve, and a gold date window at six.

🔥 LANTERNS THAT FLICKER
Each of the four lanterns flickers on its own rhythm, never in step with the others. As a flame rises the light on the wet stones swells and its edge sways; as it dips the lantern dims. You can also keep them lit and still, or put them out: the dial then shows the same night with silver bamboo and dark lanterns.
