About this audiobook

The immersive deep dive into your immune system from the brains behind the most popular science channel on YouTube, KURZGESAGT - IN A NUTSHELL. Narrated by Steve Taylor, the unforgettable voice of Kurzgesagt videos.

You wake up and feel a tickle in your throat. Your head hurts. You're mildly annoyed as you get the kids ready for school and dress for work yourself. Meanwhile, an utterly epic war is being fought, just below your skin.
Each chapter delves deeply into an element of the immune system, including:
Ā· Defences like antibodies and inflammation
Ā· Threats like viruses, bacteria, allergies and cancer
Ā· Why boosting your immune system is actually nonsense
Ā· How parasites sneak their way past your body's defences
Ā· How viruses - including the coronavirus - work
Ā· What goes on in your wounds when you cut yourself

So what, exactly, IS your immune system? Second only to the human brain in its complexity, it is one of the oldest and most critical facets of life on Earth. Without it, you would die within days. Immune takes readers on a journey through the fortress of the human body and its defences. There is a constant battle of staggering scale raging within us, full of stories of invasion, strategy, defeat, and noble self-sacrifice. In fact, in the time you've been reading this, your immune system has probably identified and eradicated a cancer cell that started to grow in your body.

Immune turns one of the most intricate and confusing subjects - immunology - into a gripping adventure. Challenging what you know and think about your own body Immune is a vital and remarkably fun crash course in what is arguably, and increasingly, the most important system in the body.

This book is excellent. I've listened to it twice already and I can't get enough of it. The subject is described in a very accessible way, with layers of complexity being added slowly so as not to overwhelm the reader / listener. The smooth voice so well known from the YouTube videos guides us through the chapters and makes the prose even more amusing. Overall it's a joy and pleasure to listen to this book.

Really glad I got this book, motivated by the videos and the smooth silky voice of the narrator, glad it carried over to the book. Goes into more depth than the videos, but never gets to a point where its hard to understand. You're going to love coming out the other end of this knowing so much more about what happens when you get sick and why.

the ebook and audiobook are amazing. The simplified way everything is explained is amazing and entertaining to listen to and read. An absolute must to anyone who loves science and audiobooks/ebooks or even just books. As detailed as a textbook but as entertaining as a novel.
