When Donald Prime opens his eyes, he finds himself lying on the shore of an unknown lake deep in the Canadian wilderness — his clothes on, his surroundings completely unfamiliar, and beside him a woman he has never seen before. Neither of them has any idea how they got there, or why. Their last known location: Quebec. What stands between them and civilization: hundreds of miles of untamed Canadian forest, a birch-bark canoe, and a dangerously short supply of practical skills.
Stranded in Arcady is a sparkling romantic adventure — part survival story, part comedy of manners — in which two thoroughly urban strangers must navigate both the wilderness and each other. As suspicion gives way to camaraderie, and camaraderie to something warmer, the novel unfolds with wit, warmth, and the irresistible energy of the Edwardian era at its most charming.
First published in 1917 by Charles Scribner's Sons and illustrated by Arthur E. Becher, the novel was popular enough to be adapted into a silent film the same year it appeared in print. Francis Lynde — one of early twentieth-century America's most beloved popular novelists — brings his trademark flair for adventure and crisp, naturalistic dialogue to a story that feels surprisingly modern: stranded strangers, forced proximity, and the slow discovery that the most dangerous wilderness might be the one inside yourself.
A perfect listen for fans of classic romantic adventure, early wilderness fiction, and timeless stories about what happens when two people have nothing left but each other.
