About this audiobook

Thomas Hauser has written books that have become part of the American dialogue. Missing, Muhammad Ali: His Life and Times, and Final Warning: The Legacy of Chernobyl are testament to that. MY MOTHER and me is a different kind of book.

Eleanor Nordlinger Hauser’s life story is told in MY MOTHER and me as only a gifted writer and loving son could tell it.It's the story of a woman who experienced soaring highs and hard falls, deconstructed and rebuilt her life several times, grew old gracefully, met the struggles of old age without complaint and, ultimately, felt that she had lived long enough and was ready to die.

Hauser’s mother knew that he'd be writing this book. “And I want you to be honest,” she told him. “Don’t make me out to be a saint. You should put in the things I did wrong too.”

“And the affairs were part of our marriage,” she added. “You can write about them too. It wouldn’t be much of a book if you left them out.”

MY MOTHER and me is a portrait of a remarkable woman and a moving exploration of the bond between a mother and son. It’s a special book worthy of attention.

About the author

Thomas Hauser was born in New York and attended both college and law school at Columbia. After graduating from law school, he clerked for a federal judge before spending five years as a litigator at the Wall Street law firm of Cravath Swaine & Moore. Hauser's first book--MISSING--was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize, Bancroft Prize, and National Book Award, and served as the basis for the Academy-Award-winning film starring Jack Lemmon and Sissy Spacek. He subsequently co-authored FINAL WARNING: THE LEGACY OF CHERNOBYL, again demonstrating his ability to explain and bring to life events of complexity and importance, an ability which has secured his reputation as a responsible and reliable social critic. The film version of FINAL WARNING starred Jon Voight and Jason Robards. Hauser's most celebrated work to date is Muhammad Ali: His Life and Times-the definitive biography of the man who was once the most famous person on earth. On nine occasions, articles Hauser has written have been designated as "best investigative reporting of the year" by the Boxing Writers Association of America. In December 2019, it was announced that he had been selected for boxing's highest honor: induction into the International Boxing Hall Fame. Hauser's fifty-five books (which include twelve novels) are read worldwide in twenty languages. He has written articles for The New Yorker, The New York Times, and numerous other publications. He lives in Manhattan.
