About this audiobook

The most practical, honest, and comprehensive guide to Wing Chun Kung Fu—built for adults who want real skill, not just impressive demonstrations.

Wing Chun was never designed for the biggest person in the room. Its structure exists precisely because its early practitioners could not rely on height, reach, or raw power to see them through a confrontation. This is the art for the smaller fighter, the older adult, the person who assumed serious martial training was no longer available to them.

Written by Bruce Chung Liao, a practitioner and teacher with close to three decades of experience, this book distils a lifetime of training into a clear, structured, and genuinely practical guide. It does not rely on mysticism or marketing hype. It explains, in plain language, what works, why it works, and how you can build it into your own body.

What Readers Are Saying

"Finally, a Wing Chun book that is honest about the art's limits and genuine about its strengths. Liao writes with the voice of a teacher who has actually worked with real adults, not just athletic young students."

— Reader Review ★★★★★

"The Chi Sao section alone is worth the price of the book. I've been training for two years and this gave me a clarity about sensitivity that my own instructor had never quite put into words."

— Reader Review ★★★★★

"I'm a smaller woman in my fifties and I honestly thought martial arts had passed me by. This book changed that. The stance and structural work is explained in a way I could actually follow and build into my own body."

— Reader Review ★★★★★

"This is the book I wish I'd had when I started training. Liao is honest about the history, clear about the philosophy, and practical about the training. A genuine gift to the Wing Chun community."

About the author

Bruce Chung Liao has practised and taught Wing Chun for close to three decades, having begun his own training as a teenager under instructors tracing their lineage through the Ip Man line of transmission described in this book. He has spent much of his teaching career working with adult beginners who arrive with no prior martial arts background, a group he believes is too often underserved by martial arts instruction pitched primarily at younger, already athletic students. He lives and teaches at a small school where classes remain deliberately modest in size, in keeping with the patient, closely supervised approach this book has described throughout.
