About this audiobook

A classic adventure novel about the fate of pirates searching for hidden treasure. Most of today's popular notions and myths about pirates come from this immensely popular book, including perhaps the archetypal figure of a ship's cook with a wooden leg. This book is simply a classic that one must know, essential for fans of adventure, pirates, and buried chests. The publication became a template for modern films and books about sea robbers. "Treasure Island" is not just a book about pirates, but also about a secret island where treasure is hidden. There's the disguised pirate John Silver, there's young Jim Hawkins who is just learning about life. And there's an incredible adventure that continues to draw young readers into the story to this day.

About the author

Robert Louis Stevenson (1850–1894) was a Scottish novelist, poet, and travel writer whose restless imagination and gift for storytelling produced some of the most beloved adventures in English literature. Born in Edinburgh to a family of celebrated lighthouse engineers, he defied expectations of a practical career and, despite lifelong ill health, roamed from the Cévennes to California to the South Seas in search of warmer climes and fresh material. From these wanderings — and from his own fevered dreams — came Treasure Island, Kidnapped, and The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, works that have thrilled generations and shaped the modern traditions of adventure fiction and psychological horror alike. He died at forty-four on his beloved Samoa, where the islanders buried him on a mountaintop overlooking the sea.
