The Overseers are a mysterious race of aliens that scattered humans on dozens of worlds throughout the galaxy. No one knows why they did it, and now a piece of their technology has been unearthed. With it, their secrets are laid bare.

Anna must travel to a small town in Tennessee to recover the device before its strange effects on the human mind drive the locals to violence. Meanwhile, Jack goes to Leyria to make contact with a professor who has studied the Overseers, and to keep the man alive long enough to get some answers.
