It's hard to like a book when the characters are unlikeable. Briony is a spoiled entitled princess, literally. And for all her powerful magic, she definitely is socially clueless. I can't figure out if it is the narrator interpretation of Toven, but he was boorish and condescending. And the cock scene was more than a little bit cringe. So many other ways to describe the same thing. And finally, trilogy, great, but you don't end a book with no ending. Nothing wrapped up here.

Rose in Chains a Harry Potter fanfic read. This reading experience was hard to put into words. I absolutely loved the set up of the magicians, school, rivalry and found this book infuriating at the same time. This book had me confused in the beginning with the different plot points. This book kept me guessing and rooting for different parties at different times in the book. I absolutely loved the woman camaraderie and the secrecy. The magic and world building definitely picked up in the second half of the book. Which helped to understand more. I was all for the banter between the love interests and the slow burn. I favored Toven’s character over Briony (mostly due to her naivety. I will be continuing the series and look forward to the release of book two.
