About this ebook

A razor-sharp prequel to Karin Slaughter's instant New York Times bestseller The Good Daughter, which is now a Peacock limited series starring Rose Byrne and Meghann Fahy.

At thirteen, Charlie Quinn's world collapsed in a single, shattering night. She became a lawyer to ensure others never felt that helpless.

So when Flora Faulkner – a motherless teenager with nowhere left to turn – begs for Charlie's help, Charlie throws herself into the case with everything she has.

But Flora's trouble runs deeper than Charlie ever imagined. And as the truth begins to surface, Charlie realizes she may have made the biggest mistake of her life.

Sometimes the truth is the most devastating twist of all.

⚠️SPOILER ALERT⚠️ ☙ I should’ve known better—Karin Slaughter never lets us rest. "Last Breath" may be a short story, but it delivers a punch that leaves you feeling frustrated, impressed, and emotionally bruised all at once. ☙ The ending? Frustrating and intentionally unresolved. Don’t expect justice here. Karin Slaughter leaves you hanging—emotionally and morally—and somehow, it works. It’s not satisfying, but it’s exactly the kind of discomfort the story demands. ☙ Flora honestly reminded me of Lena Adams—manipulative, infuriating, and still breathing when you wish she weren’t. 😅 ☙ If you’re a Slaughter fan, this one’s worth picking up. It’s dark, sharp, and psychologically twisted—exactly what you’d expect from her. Just prepare yourself: it won’t give you closure. Just emotional damage.

The entire time I was waiting for the story to begin, then next thing it was over. I love all her other books. This felt like a really long plot set up that never got exciting in any way.

It took several pages to get into it, but once I did, I couldn't put it down! I can't wait to read the sequel.
