A very intense read, gripping, emotional and very very honest writing from Jonny, he lays everything out there in the open.
About the author
Johnny Mercer served in the British army for twelve years. A captain in 29 Commando, he was deployed on three tours of Afghanistan, and weathered some of the heaviest fighting of the campaign. He was elected MP for Plymouth Moor View in May 2015, becoming a junior minister in the MoD and later a Cabinet Minister. He created the UK Government’s Office for Veterans’ Affairs, oversaw record spending on veterans and introduced legislation in Parliament that would become law to protect their rights and services. Since losing his seat in 2024, he has worked extensively in Ukraine with their government to help establish the Ukrainian Veterans Corps. His first book, We Were Warriors, detailed his military career and was a Sunday Times bestseller. His second book, No Way to Run a Country, is a memoir of his time in office.
