The saga of James T. Kirk’s historic command of the U.S.S. Enterprise is known throughout the galaxy. Crucial communication's broken among the human species make it necessary to create a Starfleet consisting of hundreds of ships fully staffed to restore standard relationships within the species definition. Career professionals: part time job seekers, and emergency employment assistance make Starfleet command a required effort. Without this attempt the name of species slips aways in ceasing to exist. Repairing wrecked data or returning it to appropriate places and time. Lighting in the Star Trek books is detailed artificial starship bulbs. There is never any sunlight outside; only starlight, but the species is so busy they don't exactly what happened to daylight.
