About this ebook

'Fantasy as it ought to be written' George R.R. Martin

Robin Hobb returns to her best loved characters with the second volume in a brand new series.

Happy endings never last...

Years ago, they freed a dragon from the glaciers on Aslevjal. Then they parted ways, the Fool returning to far-off Clerres, while Fitz finally claimed a wife, a family, and a home of his own.

Now, betrayed by his own people and broken by torment, the Fool has made his way back to the Six Duchies. But as Fitz attempts to heal his old friend in Buckkeep Castle, his young daughter Bee is abducted from Withywoods by pale and mysterious raiders who leave ruin and confusion in their wake.

Fitz must find a way to rescue his beloved Bee. At the same time it is the Fool’s fiercest wish to return to Clerres with the best assassin he has ever known, to gain vengeance and justice.
Can Fitz bear to take up the tools of his old trade again, even to avenge his dearest friend and save his child?

I am truly envious of anyone who hasn't ever read the entire series from the assassins apprentice onwards as it's a remarkable feat of forethought and ingenuity on hobbs part to create such characters and storyline. I would love to rediscover that whole series and I search for an author like her and nobody comes close.I'm so glad Fitz (fat suffices) is back, I can't wait for the next book and learn more about the fools world.

Robin Hobb is an excellent author, I have read every single one of her books. This latest addition was by far the best in the entire series I won't spoil it for anyone but I really feel as though she is doing the right thing by her characters. I could not read this book fast enough and the only disappointment I have is that I have to wait for the next one to come out.

In the last two hundred books that I have read, I have yet to give five stars just in case a book came along that was better. Well this is that book. I can't wait to buy the next one. I don't feel as if the author has me over a barrel by leaving it in the air as some authors do. Robin Hobb has relied on her good writing to get me to read the next one. What a good writer. Thank you. I almost feel relieved that my five star' duck' is over. I am an avid reader but have only just got back into reading in the last two years. I can be rather caustic if I think an author is insulting me with a sloppy job or leaving a book mid sentence. This write should be proud at what she has achieved.

About the author

Robin Hobb is one of the world’s finest writers of epic fiction. She was born in California in 1952 but raised in Alaska, where she learned how to raise a wolf cub, to skin a moose and to survive in the wilderness. When she married a fisherman who fished herring and the Kodiak salmon-run for half the year, these skills would stand her in good stead. She raised her family, ran a smallholding, delivered post to her remote community, all at the same time as writing stories and novels. She succeeded on all fronts, raising four children and becoming an internationally best-selling writer. She lives in Tacoma, Washington State.
