From Casey McQuiston, New York Times bestselling author of Red, White & Royal Blue comes One Last Stop, a big-hearted romantic comedy that will stop you in your tracks. . .

Moving to New York City is supposed to prove cynical twenty-three-year-old August right: magic and cinematic love stories don’t exist.

But then, she meets this gorgeous girl on the train.

Jane. Dazzling, charming, mysterious, impossible Jane. Jane with her rough edges and swoopy hair and soft smile.

August’s subway crush becomes the best part of her day, but pretty soon she discovers there’s one big problem: Jane is displaced in time from the 1970s, and August is going to have to use everything she tried to leave in her own past to help Jane. Maybe it’s time to start believing in some things after all . . .

This novel reads pretty much like an episode of The Twilight Zone just sans the dramatized endings since this is a rom-com after all just with a touch of mystery and weirdness thrown in. It does have its funny and romantic moments. There was also sadness and nostalgia with found families and casts full of queerness. Together with multiple romantic subplots and a pancakes subplot for pancakes' sake that eventually ties in to the main story. I don't think it's really considered as time travel since no time was actually travelled. Time progresses as normal even if Jane lived in the subway ad perpetuam. Since electricity is involved, it feels more of a case of time dilation where Jane exists in a space-time continuum that's closer to the speed of light relative to the normal time progression of the earth. But that's just my brain trying to rationalize the irrational. Anyway it was quite an interesting and enjoyable book overall. I'd recommend it if you enjoy a little strangeness and weirdness in your romcoms.
