David Lindsay

David Lindsay was born in 1876 in Blackheath, London, and spent the better part of his adult life working as a clerk in a London insurance office. He served in the First World War, and afterward quit his position to write full time, a decision from which he never financially recovered. A Voyage to Arcturus, his first novel, was published in 1920 and sold fewer than six hundred copies. He wrote five more novels over the remaining twenty-five years of his life, each one stranger and more uncompromising than the last, and none found a significant audience until decades later.
