Mary Prince

Mary Prince (c. 1788-after 1833) was born into slavery in Bermuda and endured repeated sale, forced labor, and severe abuse before reaching England. Sojourner Truth (c. 1797-1883) escaped slavery in New York and became a celebrated abolitionist, women's-rights advocate, and religious speaker. Their narratives remain foundational works of Black history, women's history, and abolitionist literature.
